Yesterday we came back from a two night get-away in S. Lake Tahoe where we ate like kings, drank like fish, and worked on perfecting our gambling problem.
The first night I was sick as a dog: drippy, sneezing, hacking… just plain uncomfortable but I pulled through and in the morning I was revived and ready for some action. Before leaving the room for breakfast I scraped up about $2.00 in change from the bottom of my purse so that I could play a few slots on the way to the restaurant, but I completely forgot that the slot machines no longer accepted change, only bills or vouchers, so we went straight to the restaurant and I wound up placing a $2.00 bet on six numbers in a game of Keno.
Eventually our lukewarm rubberlike breakfast came and after about two bites I noticed that the game had begun, my game. One after another my numbers were popping up on the screen, and before I could finish checking them all, the Keno lady came around, grabbed my ticket, and with a smile in her voice said, ” Ahh! Five out of six! YOU won two..” (I am thinking she is going to say follow “two” with “dollars”)…”hundred dollars!” and then she handed me two deliciously crisp $100 dollar bills. My jaw dropped. I looked over at Husband, he looked up from his pile of slop at me, and we sat there giggling, mouths full of half-chewed food. Even the lady sitting in the booth behind us, who had just witnessed my stroke of luck, was smiling ear to ear…It was almost as though I had given her hope and it just felt so right.
Honestly though, we aren’t big gamblers. I like to play a bit of roulette but mostly we like to hang out at the bar, where our favorite bartender works, play .25 cent video poker into the wee hours of the night, and load up on free drinks (if you play at least $10.00 at a time, or you are friends with the bartender, your drinks are on the house).
Saying goodbye to Tahoe was strange. I kept on catching myself saying things like, “next year we should…” and “next time we come here…”, completely forgetting the fact that at this time next year we will be living a whole new life, worlds away.
So here we are, back home, with less that two full months before we move and shit still isn’t 100% finalized in regards to the “offer” and an actual move date. It is so frustrating. Why can’t these people just get it together? Don’t they understand that we need time to plan? They can’t just expect us to drop everything here and move to a new country with only two weeks notice!?!?
Anyway, I am starting a two week detox, beginning today. No alcohol, bread/flour, dairy… an internal pre-spring cleaning. Hopefully I will live through it. Please keep my husband in your thoughts.
..until next time, I leave you with the view from our hotel room:
