I’ve got something you don’t have…, originally uploaded by Colleen Gomez.
but I’ve got something no German has.. TAMPAX tampons. Jealous?
I was having trouble with our innernets yesterday, therefore, I was unable to post which is probably a good thing because I was a LOUSY mood and would have loved nothing more than to fly back home.
I was feeling homesick, out of place, and lonely… and then we found out that the owner of the flat we were moving into decided, the moment after we put our application in, that he no longer would allow dog in the unit and so sadly enough, we are not moving into that flat. However, we discussed it, over about 300 glasses of wine last night, and came to the conclusion that it was probably for the best because the place, particularly the kitchen, needed some work. Also, we were a bit concerned about how damp it was and the relocation agent had told us that she saw that same unit months ago and it was a mess…
We applied to the one in Schwabing also but it may have been too late, and so we have two more units, both historical buildings, to look at tomorrow. Flats go fast, so lets hope tomorrow is our lucky day. Shoot, we even told her we’d pay more at this point (the last one would run warm around $1600 USD and it was a one bedroom which is STEEP)…we are used to paying high rent because SF is the same way, and we were well aware of the cost to live in a good neighborhood here, which is what we want, without compromise. I figure if it costs a bit more but makes the experience here better then it is well worth it, he agrees. Thank God.
So anyway, yesterday blew. In addition to that whole mess, I took the train to a petstore to get Daisy some food and it turned out that the store was an online shop and that was their “office”. Feeling defeated, and drenched from the rain, I get back on the train only discover a few stops later that I am going the wrong way… eventually I get on the right train, head to the market to get Daisy some meat and realize that I left my shopping bag at home so I wound up having to stuff groceries in to my purse..drippy meat. Fun. Meanwhile our innernets were down and we made the mistake of calling the hotline when it was down the other day and it wound up costing us 175,00 euros for a 9 minute call…. oh shoot, I totally forgot the worst part: my DVD driver conflicted with my virtual drive and so my laptop wouldn’t boot. I couldn’t even get into system restore for like an hour. NIGHTMARE. Talk about pouring down rain.
In other news:
Yesterday is over, thank god.
My cell phone STILL has not arrived at the shop. He said hopefully tomorrow.
I officially have my very first German hangover. Ouch.
I fixed my laptop, obviously.
I am learning German by reading label of food items I pick up at the grocery store. We went to dinner last night I was able to read some of it and I can now tell which is chicken, which is TURKEY (still WTH) and which is pork…or vegetarian.
I became frustrated the other day, my first trip to the store, when I thought I had purchased chicken cutlets (schnitzel) and it turned out to be turkey. So I’ve learned all the different meats and words for things because I plan to spend a lot of time in the market.
Anyway, time for my daily dose of Kiko, the kids channel. Still haven’t registered for language school and watching sesame street in German is the next best thing.

Are pink PAY phones…GAY phones..?
Maybe you should change your name into Heidi von Gomez-Kleytmann ?
You hardly can say Daisy is a dog…..what is happening Colleen? No money…no house..? Maybe you should rent an appartment in a lower class then? Think all the fancy one’s are dogs not allowed?
It’s not the location or the rent that’s the problem. It is the real estate agents who keep showing us units that are not dog friendly even though our relocation agent specifically asked for dog friendly flats. And the bank account thing turned out to be a disaster…we sold some of our stocks before we left. That took like 5 days to go through and we didn’t have the German account yet so it had to go into our US account. Relocation said wiring would be easy between commerzbank and wells… well, not so much the case if you are not in the country you are wiring the money from. We found a solution though. We made a trx to another wells account to a person who is actually in the states. That person can authorize the bank wire to our German acct… what a hassle. me so tired. Really really frustrated and tired.
We had almost the same problem while staying in Mexico in 1990. We had enough money on our Belgium bank account, but we forgot to upgrade it, in order to take more money abroad. Big problem….but then we asked my family in Mexico to lent us the money, wich was embarrasing….
