sauteed corn and zucchini side

We had this last night, it went nicely with the bbq:

a few swirls of olive oil

1/2 bag of frozen corn, thawed and drained

3 medium zucchini, peeled and cut into bite sized pieces

3 large cloves of garlic, finely chopped

1/4-1/2 of one Serrano chili (optional), sliced

handful of fresh basil

*I’ve made this with fresh corn sliced off of the cob and also with red bell pepper, chopped up. It would be great with bacon too, because bacon basically rules*

put the olive oil in a wok or a large pan and heat to medium high. Toss in 1/2 of the garlic and the chili, let it cook for around 3o seconds or so, keep the pan moving though, do not let the garlic brown. Toss in a the zucchini and corn a little at a time, allowing it to brown slightly, stirring and tossing in pan. Half way through cooking the zucchini and corn add the remainder of the garlic to the pan. Continue to cook until veggies are tender and a little browned. Sprinkle with salt and pepper and just before serving stir in that handful of fresh basil. so nice.

We had it with grilled chicken and spare ribs and a tomato salad with mozzarella and avocado.

yippee ki yaaaaaay

What’s new… hmm, let me see, oh yeah —> we are moving back HOOOOOME (omg omg omg omg omg)—-> in JULY!!!! or, maybe even late June.

It is really happening, but there’s a catch. As of right now it looks like we may be  moving to San Diego and not going back to San Francisco.  At first I was like, “um no way” but now, after doing a bit of research it seems as though San Diego might be a really good fit for us.

Pros:

weather (no more Winter WORKS FOR ME!)

beach (I could cry)

more affordable housing (still expensive but not nearly as lame as SF)

no more rinky dink apartments, we can actually afford a HOUSE

award winning school districts (far cry from the SF school district which is a complete joke)

very safe, low crime

cons:

8 hour drive to family and friends (1.5 hour flight which runs about $130.00 round trip <— i can live with that!)

ANOTHER new city. The thought of starting over again in a new city makes me crazy tired. BUT, I have friends an hour away, we are not that far from SF and we can actually talk to people which will be amazing.  I just can’t wait to be back in my element again. I am sick of feeling like a foreigner.

Aside from location, I am really looking forward to having my overpriced health insurance again so I can see a real qualified Doctor. I know y’all are wanting this universal health care in the US but unless you’ve had to actually live with it and use it, I’d think twice. I only say this from having experienced both sides. My conclusion: you get what you pay for in life…and “free” healthcare really isn’t free, trust me, you pay. pththt.

The Doctors here are not with the times and neither is the equipment they use (what do you mean you’ve never seen an iron lung in your Dr’s office), scary. They still think teething causes a fever and that breastmilk is not enough nutrition for a baby after four months of age, way dated thinking. In addition to that, I have been CLINICALLY anxious and crazy for months now and not a single Dr. can tell me what the fuck to do about it. Stop shrugging your shoulders at me dammit! It is stupid, and so is not giving me a flu shot (because I am breastfeeding) and subjecting me to 7 days of sickness hell while trying to care for a baby.  What is up with the need to make a bitch suffer in this country?

Anyway, enough about that. If you want to know more about what I think about the healthcare system in Germany, I can cover that in another post but I am not letting it ruin my day again.

No offense to Germany but I can’t WAIT to get the fuck out of here.

In other news, Georgiana got her first tooth and tooth number 2 is on it’s way! Yay for cute little teeth! We started giving her a bit of fruit in the morning and she loves it. Cantaloupe is her favorite, so far.

By the looks of things it seems like G has been hit with her first cold. She has a runny little nose, poor thing. I am hoping that because we are still breastfeeding that it wont turn into a full blown ear infection. She seems alright, a little cranky, but that could be from the teeth…

Other than that, everything is better than it was last month because we found out with certainty that we are leaving almost two months sooner than we had anticipated and Spring has arrived which takes the edge off, for sure.

I keep telling myself to pretend that we are on vacation now, since the end is very near and the sun is shining.

Speaking of vaca, we are going to Paris for a week, not sure of the exact date yet, but I am very excited to visit again, go to Versailles, and see one of my very best friends in the whole wild world before we head home. We are also planning on taking a trip via train to Prague and then to Vienna. We are waiting to get specifics in regards to the relocation before we start making plans but these last couple of months should be fun.

I hope Spring has found you, where ever you are xo

32 weeks old!

7 months old

today, this AM … at 3:04, to be precise.

these days, we are:  sitting, playing, giggling, bouncing, eating chicken and beef, sprouting a tooth, waking up in the middle of the night a bit less, cheerful, curious, silly… and growing, oh so fast.

Happy 7 Months, Georgiana! xo

6.5 month baby update

I just wanted to do a quick baby update while I’ve got two free hands.

here it goes:
She still has no teeth. It seems like she’s been teething for months now but nothing has happened so far.

She is not sleeping through the night. In fact, she rarely sleeps for longer than 2 hours at a time these days, even with the introduction of solids (her sleeping has actually gotten WORSE!). I attribute it to her not being so interested in eating during the day, too many distractions, so she has been filling up at night. I am not really sure how to break this habit. I have been trying to feed her every two hours during the day but keeping her still for more than 5 mins at a time is almost impossible.

She is eating solids now every night. So far she’s had sweet potato, carrots and chicken. I steam it, puree it in the blender and then mix it with breast milk so it’s more of a soup but she gobbles it right up. We are only giving her two teaspoons of food each  night. Once she hits 7 months I will give her a teaspoon or two in the morning as well, but I am really taking it slow and giving her tastes rather than trying to stuff her. Next week we are going to try steamed artichoke hearts!!

She is sitting really well now. So well that we just swapped out the pram for the seat on her stroller yesterday! Whoo hoo! It still reclines all the way back in case she doses off. The only thing that sucks is that the seat weighs about 5 pounds more than the bassinet and so now the entire thing is even heavier. Thankfully we won’t be here much longer and hopefully wont have to deal with stairs when we move back to the US.

G is not crawling and not really attempting to. She’s also not too interested rolling anymore either..not a real physically active baby. She has, however, excelled in regards to fine motor skills, coordination and “problem solving”. For over a month now she’s been passing objects from one hand to the other and turning the pages of her books using her thumb and pointer finger. She can hold the sippy cup by the handles, bring it to her mouth and drink and eat off of her spoon while holding it. The most amazing thing I’ve seen her do yet was get a toy, that was out of her reach, by pulling the blanket that it was sitting on toward her. It was incredible watching her figure out that if she pulled that blanket the toy would come closer and then she’d be able to grab it. It blew me away.

She has also become such a flirt these days.  Two months ago she would cry anytime a stranger came up to her but now she smiles, giggles and tilts her sweet little head. She melts hearts wherever she goes. I love it. It makes me so happy that she’s no longer terrified to be around new people.

We moved on up to level 2 at Gymboree this week!! The new class is ages 6-10 months old. This class is way more active and there are babies crawling everywhere! It is wonderful and Georgiana is loved it.  It wore her out so much that she conked out the second I put her in the stroller. We have made some new friends in our class as well and have been going on “playdates”.  It has been so good for both of us. She has really gotten over her fear of people and I have made some new friends who are also in the same boat as I am. Signing up for this class was such a good decision.

Her favorite things right now are (still) when we sing “the wheels on the bus” and in particular, the part when the horn goes beep beep beep on her belly. She loves the bubbles at Gymboree and looking at herself in the mirror. She’s also loving bath time more and more. She squeals, kicks and splashes, it’s so cute… I think she’s almost big enough for a bath seat? G is crazy about Daisy, sadly, the feeling is not mutual..yet.

bb is asleep in my lap so i am now typing with one hand.

As far as her weight goes, Georgiana is 8.5 kg now (about 17 pounds!) and I have no idea how long she is…too wiggly to measure. She is luscious and plump in all the right places. Yum yum.

Well that’s all for now.  smell ya later!
